No doubt that there would be a great number of factors
that influences you to choose a career or profession.
First, let us get the meaning of profession. Profession
according to Wikipedia is a vocation founded upon specialized educational
training. The purpose of which is to supply disinterested objective counsel and
service to others, for a direct and definite compensation of other business
gain.
Of a truth, most people have missed the track as a result
of misleading guidance and counseling. Schools no longer care for students as
relating to what they truly desire to study. Parents are the worst issue to
mention-“go to school, read well and pass”-what we hear from parents.
But there is more to it: children should be properly
guided in choosing a career that would not affect them in the future or regret
of it. One career is a long term
commitment which when not properly chosen poses great effect on the person.
Choosing a profession is not as easy as many people think
it is. I know you wouldn't want to go for a profession that you will regret
after.
Today I come up with what you ought to consider before
choosing a profession.
Your Interest
You became a teacher as a result of the rising need for
teaching work and you well know that teaching has never been in your interest
probably you dislike children and their noise. I tell in no time you would
start relapsing along the line and one day drop the chalk before your employer
and remain jobless or take to the street looking for a job.
Or you are the type that hates argument then you can’t
become a lawyer but if you are really good at mathematics then a profession in
science or any related finance could be good for you. Don’t go for what you
don’t have interest at- it kills.
It is really important to ponder on things that interest
you in terms of work. Start by considering the things you do well and start
working on it.
Your Passion
Passion I can say is a driving force that keeps one going
despite the odds on the way. Most people take a profession because of the money
involved, benefits derived, job security and the likes. Aside all these, take a
profession for what you want to render and not what you want to take. The
saying goes, “if you follow your passion, the money will follow”. Go for what
you are passionate about and you will see yourself getting the best.
Education
Requirements
For one to attain a desires profession you have reached a
certain degree or experience before you can be fit to work in that profession.
Some professions are expensive to attain like law,
medicine etc and when you are not financially strong, you can’t be able to get
to the peak of it.
Ensure to choose a profession that would be within your
reach in terms of finance to avoid failure in the near future.
Job Availability
This is a least factor per say that determines what
profession you should go into, but thanks to the advancement in technology that
have been able to make work easier be it within or without.
But this point can’t be left out, “you can’t get a bird
where there is no bird” what am I trying to eulogize here? You don’t expect to
get a particular job when companies or organizations offering that job are not
in your locality-that would definitely call for migration which in some cases
might not be possible.
Look out and be on the watch for jobs that can be easily
given after your schooling.
Health Condition
This is very important to consider. Your health matters a
lot and not the job or profession. Some health conditions require that you do
not go into what will cause more challenge to the body. If you are faced with
one health challenge then you should have a thought on the profession that you
have a fore chosen. Be in health and keep
working or keep working and keep degenerating In health-chose one.
Stability of the
Job
This happens to be the final one on my list. When looking
out to work for a company or a big organization, it is pertinent to make
research on that particular company. Is it always at the risk of going extinct?
Is it in the habit of retrenching workers? Are the managements stable? Do they
have good repute over the years? How well do they manage their employees? How
well and quick are they able to adjust to economic change?
When all these research are gathered then you should be
able to know where you stand.
