Having a
weak will is often considered "normal" especially when the discussion
is about an individual with a phlegmatic temperament. Strong willed individuals
will be admired for succeeding at difficult tasks. We adore them for
having the ability to pull through tough situations. While those with little to
no will power just assume willpower is something some people get and some
don't.
This
belief deters them fr
om ever attempting to change, or to find the source of
their lack of inner resilience. Social and psychological factors can nurture
your willpower. In our our adolescent years, we develop these characteristics.
Contributing factors such as home environment and the strength or
integrity of the family structure can all affect us.
Psychological Inhibitors to Willpower Development
An
individuals lack of will power can be traced to to the events surrounding his
or her formative ages. It stems from believing that being strong willed or
pushing for what you want will disturb a balance. You feel the fear of creating
an unsafe environment which is fear of consequence. As adults however, this
belief is harmful and slowly causes us to become self-distracted toward our
goals, while our self-confidence begins to erode.
These
damaging thoughts and emotions stem from negative memories. Even though you may
not directly think about these memories, or even connect your negativity with
them. They are subconsciously lingering and creating the foundation for your
lack of willpower. Think of these memories as invisible factories that are
producing food for negative thought on a continuous basis.
Willpower
is essential for success in life. It is necessary to be able to set your sights
on a goal and overcome obstacles and hardships in order to achieve that goal.
If you are the type of person that feels failure is inevitable and no matter
how hard you try you can't win, this isn't a coincidence.
The world
is not against you; in fact the problem you are having stems from your wrong
perception of the world, that is your true enemy.
This is
due to your subconscious viewing every difficult situation as an impassable
obstacle and causing you to give up long before you have truly failed. You
don't have the chance to succeed, because your own mind is sabotaging your
efforts.
These
occurrences of negativity have the power to undermine your best intentions and
most straightforward attempts at success and they often do. By experiencing
these self-destructive occurrences you risk your focus and ultimately your life
goals.
This
inevitable failure is caused by the deep rooted problem which caused you to
view pushing yourself toward your goals as unsafe, while still a child.
What To Do About It
One way
to overcome the frustration of seeing every little challenge as humongous
obstacle is to tap into your willpower, cultivate and believe in your ability
to become your own messiah. To do this you must understand the underlying
problem which caused this lack of willpower.
Taking a
very close look, negative emotions affect your will. Impulses and thoughts
orchestrate your actions from deep within your mind. Your mind creates these
images and scenarios because you have trained or allowed it to do so over time.
It has become a default move each time you need to make a decision.
Many
techniques to prevent these tendencies exist, such as meditation. They help to
deflect negative thought patterns from taking over your mind. However, few
people ever question whether it is normal, or, necessary to experience this
negativity at all. In all honesty, the answer is no; these negative tendencies
don't exist within you as a natural state.
As a baby,
you reach for the fire and harmful things, you pick up stuff from the floor and
stick it in your mouth. You crawl all over the backyard filled with insects and
because you do not know fear.
Toddlers
ask questions about everything and want to be superman. That is our natural
state, an incorruptible will. We are all born pure and fearless, but
repeated intakes of negative information will later infiltrate our thought
process along the line.
Finally
What if
you could deal with these memories permanently, by putting your factories of
negativity out of business forever? You can, and easily.
Once you
have realized that your negativity is a result of your own fear, you will feel
a wave of relief. This relief is accompanied by mental resilience, thought
clarity and a new found will that is unshakable.
Even
better is the fact that, you can do it all on your own without ever employing
an expert. You also do not have to learn outside techniques like meditation.
Putting your mind to work can help you in successfully acquiring unshakable
inner strength. This can pave way for you to experience success in your future
pursuits.
